Intro to Oil Painting

Held at the Cedar Valley Retreat Center in West Bend, WI

May 17-19th, 9am-4pm

Begin your journey into oil painting with Beki Borman! This workshop will cover the basics of materials, such as how to mix them, apply them, and clean them. You will discuss different painting methods and techniques, such as underpainting, direct painting, and more. Working from photos you will practice different ways of building an image in oil.

Watercolor Painting

WATERCOLORING WORKSHOP

Held at the Bay View Community Center

June 3 – 24 • Mondays, 6:30 – 8:30 pm

Using traditional watercolor techniques students will learn how to plan and execute a painting using a photograph as reference. In this class we will look at many examples of how photographs translate to paint. Through demonstration, students will be shown techniques such as wet on wet, layering, and more. This class will provide opportunities to transform any image into a work of art. All supplies will be provided.

Palette Knife Painting

Held at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts in Brookfield
Thursdays, June 13 – July 11 (NO CLASS July 4), 6:00 – 8:00 pm

Make great textures and loose abstract marks with palette knives! Students will explore layering, carving, and scraping to create expressive and personalized paintings. This class is best for students with some painting experience.

Intro to Pastels

Saturday, June 15, 10 am-3 pm

Held at the Cedarburg Cultural Center

In this class we will cover tools, techniques, and methods for creating expressive and vibrant pastel drawings. Students will learn how to blend and layer to achieve accurate volume and color. Mark-making techniques will be covered for expressing movement and feeling. After a few warm-up exercises, students will be invited to work from photographs to create an artwork that is personal and unique. This class is perfect for beginners. Supply list available online.

ARTIST-LED OPEN STUDIO

Painting from Nature

Get outdoors and get inspired! In this beginner class, start with the basics of acrylic painting. Then, using nature as a guide, explore how the patterns, textures, and colors can be translated and expressed with brush, canvas, and paint.

Abstract Landscape Painting

Concept

The landscape lends itself to rich interpretation and expression. Using acrylic paints and personal photo references, make sense of this subject matter as a jumping off point for abstraction as you explore composition, mark-making, and paint application.

Experience

Through demonstrations and discussions, Beki will review the basics of acrylic painting before moving into more experimental techniques. Students will work to create their own abstract landscape paintings with individualized feedback from the instructor and group. Open to all levels of experience. More advanced painters will have the opportunity to push the boundaries of their painting practice, while beginners will develop skill.
