Painting without a Brush

Dates and Times: August 31-September 1 | 9am-4pm

Discover new methods, techniques, and tools in this process-based exploration of acrylic painting. Emphasis will be placed on creating visually interesting marks and compositions.

Through demonstrations and discussions, learn several brushless techniques of painting using traditional and non-traditional tools to achieve unique effects. Working from photographic references of subject matter of your choosing, create paintings filled with new marks and expression. All levels welcome. Experienced painters will have the opportunity to push the boundaries of their painting practice, while beginners will develop skill.

MIXED MEDIA WATERCOLOR

Move beyond traditional watercolor and learn how to incorporate other materials such as pastels and acrylics into a unique work of art. IMPRESSIONIST-STYLE PAINTING IN ACRYLIC

Discover how to capture color and light the way the impressionists did. Through discussions of historical examples of impressionism and an analysis of the techniques of artists such as Monet and Turner, students will work from photographs to create their own impressionist-style paintings. This class is perfect for beginners or painters who want to challenge their current working methods.

INTRODUCTION TO OIL PAINTING

Begin your journey into oil painting! Working from photos, we will practice different ways of building an image in oil. This class will cover the basics of mixing, applying, and cleaning materials, as well as different painting methods and techniques, such as underpainting, direct painting, and more.

KNIFE PAINTING

Held at the Cedarburg Cultural Center, W62 N546 Washington Ave. Cedarburg

Saturday, Nov 10 10am-3pm

Paint with thick creamy paint and create vibrant, colorful surfaces. Knife painting allows the artist to loosen up and achieve a more impressionistic look. Working from photo, students will learn how to handle painting knives in order to achieve unique texture on their paintings. Techniques in knife manipulation with be covered as well as direct painting methods and color observation. This class is best for students some basic painting experience. EXPLORING THE WISCONSIN LANDSCAPE IN ACRYLIC
