Twenty Paintings Workshop

Friday, May 18- Sunday may 20th (9am-4pm each day)

In this stimulating class you will paint the same subject “twenty” times. You will learn experimentation and will be challenged to find ways to rediscover the subject. The uses of acrylic paint will be covered as part of the journey. You will discuss topics such as color, value, style, method and more! It will force you to explore your technique. Overnighters $290 includes workshop, two nights lodging and all meals. Commuters $120 includes workshop and daily lunch. (Supply list will be provided at time of registration.)

Knife Painting with Acrylics

The Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts 19805 W. Capitol Drive Brookfield, WI

Tuesdays June 5-26, 6-8pm

Knife painting allows the artist to loosen up and achieve a more impressionistic look, using thick creamy paint to create vibrant, colorful surfaces. Working from photo and life, students will learn how to handle painting knives in order to achieve unique texture and an impasto surface on their paintings with acrylics. The class will cover techniques in knife manipulation as well as direct painting methods and color observation.

Exploring Color Mixing with Acrylics

The Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts, 19805 W. Capitol Drive, Brookfield WI

Tuesdays, July 3-24, 6-8pm

One of the hardest parts of painting is developing an intuitive understanding of color and how it will mix. This class will start with the basics of the color wheel. Through exercises students will be taught the properties of color and color mixing. Then these lessons will be implemented in restricted palette paintings to help understand the visual impact of color. Whether you are a regular painter who still struggles to get your colors right, or a beginner looking for a place to start, this class is open to anyone who need to brush up on their color mixing.

Get a Feel of the Land: The Landscape in Acrylic from Photos 

 

Cedarburg Cultural Center, W62 N546 Washington Avenue, Cedarburg

Thursdays, July 12- August 2, 6:30 pm-8:30 pm

Working from photographs, students will develop multiple paintings of landscapes in acrylic.  Learn how to achieve aspects of landscapes, including depth, atmosphere, and feeling.  We will discuss techniques and compositions that help create a successful image.  The basics of acrylic will be covered, along with the steps to begin and execute a single artwork.  This is a perfect place for beginners to dive in.

Intuitive Abstract Painting

Held at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts 19805 W. Capitol Drive Brookfield, WI

Saturday, July 21
10:00am – 2:30pm*

With an emphasis on composition, speed, and gesture, this class will be a fun one-day experience in painting. Work on loosening up, achieving bold brushwork, and expressing your mood. Exercises will help students get painting. Class discussion will help students understand their results.

Supplies not included.

Painting without a Brush

Dates and Times: August 31-September 1 | 9am-4pm

Discover new methods, techniques, and tools in this process-based exploration of acrylic painting. Emphasis will be placed on creating visually interesting marks and compositions.

Through demonstrations and discussions, learn several brushless techniques of painting using traditional and non-traditional tools to achieve unique effects. Working from photographic references of subject matter of your choosing, create paintings filled with new marks and expression. All levels welcome. Experienced painters will have the opportunity to push the boundaries of their painting practice, while beginners will develop skill.
