Colorful Media

Held at MIAD 273 E. Erie Street, Milwaukee

Some of the brightest pigments can be found in the soft layering of chalk pastel. Combined with the rigidity and permanence of acrylics, this class explores the fundamentals of these media but also the ways to utilize texture, layering, and more. Working from both life and photo, students practice various ways to begin and execute a mixed media painting. Focusing on pastel and acrylic, the course also provides the opportunity to  incorporate additional elements such as pencil, ink, and collage.

5 Paintings in a Day

Held at Shake Rag Alley in Mineral Point

Sunday, October 11th 9am-4pm

An artist really learns to paint when given the freedom to let go of a subject and the expectations of a single painting. This class will help you do this through repetition and technique. Painting the same subject five times, you will learn experimentation and be challenged to find ways to rediscover the subject. The uses of acrylic paint will be covered as part of the journey. We will discuss topics such as color, value, style, method, history, and more!

Color Mixing with Nature’s Palette

held at the Cedarburg Cultural Center

Saturday, January 16:  11 am-4 pm

How to arrive at that exact shade of green…or blue…we have all been there experimenting, perhaps wasting a lot of paint! This acrylic painting workshop takes inspiration from the palette of the natural world and centers our focus on color mixing and matching from both life and photo. A Note on My Teaching Philosophy

I have been teaching art for over a decade. Most of my classes are designed by me and are geared to embrace a range of experience levels.
Being an artist takes WORK. But it is never too late to start. I believe one should start in a way that will be less intimidating. Don’t spend thousands on supplies and then be afraid to “waste them” on “bad paintings”. The hardest part of making art is not to learn the tools or techniques. The hardest part is breaking old habits and being fearless in trying new approaches.

As a teacher, my goal is to help the individual on their unique journey while providing general goals and lessons for everyone in the class to learn from and respond to. I hope you will consider taking a class with me at some point. I offer classes in painting (acrylic), abstraction, pastel, mixed media, landscape, drawing, and more. Click on the classes link above to see what’s coming! Feel free to contact me with any questions . I hope to make art with you soon.

Best Regards
